Briançon : a town fortified by Vauban and a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Close to the border with Italy, at the crossroads of the Hautes-Alpes and Provence, Briançon is a fortified town set against the backdrop of the Alps. The historical significance of Briançon derives from its strategic location. For a long time, its role has been to watch over several valleys. However, it was in the 17th and 18th centuries that the town took on its present appearance, when the architect Vauban equipped it with an impressive system of fortifications.Perfectly preserved, the Cité Vauban is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With several forts built around Briançon, the Cité Vauban is a superb example of defensive architecture. Beyond its walls, you’ll find churches, fountains and more, dotted along the narrow streets that wind through it. You’ll be charmed by its famous "Gargouilles", streams that cascade down the walled town, originally created to combat devastating fires.

Turin, Italy’s first capital

This former stronghold of the Dukes of Savoy inherited a diverse cultural heritage and a dynamic cultural scene from that glorious era, featuring a number of museums. Football fans, for their part, won’t want to miss the chance to watch a Juventus match – the legendary Italian club.
Fort des Salettes, a military ruin in the Hautes-Alpes
